A busy day focused on spreading lime for titmice

At Värla Gård in Linghem, several metric tons of lime are being spread on the farmland. Since weather conditions have not been ideal during late summer, we now have a significant amount of work ahead of us to ensure that farmers have the best possible conditions for the coming season.

It’s a sunny day, and we’re at Värla Farm in Linghem, just outside Linköping. Two spreaders are being loaded with mesalime from Aspa Bruk and are heading out to the fields to spread it. This is the second of four farms we’re visiting today. Niclas Gustavsson, who has been involved in spreading both lime and fertilizer for Biototal and Mewab since 2005, is delighted with a day like this.

– “The favorable weather conditions mean we’re not negatively impacting the soil we’re working on.” “It’s great to be able to help farmers so they have the best possible conditions heading into the upcoming season,” says Niclas.

This year, agricultural lime and meso-lime have been applied on a larger scale than structural lime, as the soil has been too moist to allow for optimal application of structural lime. The poor weather conditions are a challenge for us, and we’ve had to postpone many applications because of them. Farmers haven’t had time to finish threshing, which has meant we’ve had to adapt our work quite a bit. Once this year’s applications are complete, the peak season at Aspa Bruk will begin for Niclas.

– We’re going to transport lime down there and start dredging the ponds at Aspa Bruk, but first I thought I’d take the opportunity to take a little time off.
